Sinn Féin councillor Jack Murray has said that Labour Senator Jimmy Harte should apologise for his inflammatory remarks which stated that he would pay for a Polish National's flight home. Cllr Murray also said that Senator Harte should spend his time working for the people he represents. Cllr Murray said; "As a public representative I feel I should respond to Senator Jimmy Harte's public comments which stated that he would pay for a Polish National's flight home. "The remarks were made after mistranslated comments featured in the national media. "Not for the first time - Jimmy Harte has sought opportunist media attention without judging the consequences of his actions. "Senator Harte would be better using his influence to fight against the household charge, septic tank fees and other unjust taxes that his government is inflicting on the people of Donegal. "In the face of further austerity which may be inflicted by Europe, he has remained extremely quiet while his government attempts to deny the Irish people their right to have a say on the fiscal treaty. "Senator Harte should apologise for his bullish and ill-thought-out comments and begin doing his job by working for the people he represents. In my opinion, that would be much more newsworthy activity."
