Sinn Féin Education candidate for Donegal North East, Cllr Padraig Mac Lochlainn has strongly criticised the Department of Education and the Government for neglecting information technology in our schools. Sinn Féin representative for the Milford Electoral Area, Donal Cullen has welcomed news that a Sinn Féin motion has been passed instructing the roads section of Donegal County Council to lead up an initiative to construct bus shelters across the county in consultation with school boards of management and parents committees at various locations funded by business advertisements. Speaking after attending Sinn Féin's health rally in Dublin last Saturday, general election candidates, Cllr Pádraig Mac Lochlainn and Cllr Pearse Doherty have called on people across Donegal to increase pressure on the government to deliver a public health system that delivers on the basis of need and not ability to pay. They said this government's disastrous privatisation agenda is causing huge hardship and has meant that there is now huge inequality in healthcare delivery. Read full article

Donegal Sinn Féin councillor and general election candidate, Pearse Doherty, has said that the European Union has a significant role to play in bringing about a united Ireland, and has called for the northwest to be assigned objective one status. Cllr. Doherty was speaking following a visit to the European Parliament in Brussels last week as part of a Sinn Féin delegation that attended a major conference on how the EU can assist the process of Irish reunification. The Sinn Féin general election candidate will propose a motion at the reconvened meeting of the council on Monday 16th October, allowing the councillors to express their dissatisfaction with the current situation. Sinn Féin Cllr Padraig Mac Lochlainn has called on Donegal County Manager, Michael McLoone to advance the case for a motorway from Dublin to Donegal and the rebuilding of a railway network in the county as part of his ongoing meetings with the Government in relation to their recently launched 'Interdepartmental Group Report on Donegal'. Hugh Doherty, Chairperson of the Donegal H Block Committee, has described last Sunday's event in the Radisson Hotel, Letterkenny, commemorating the 1981 Hunger Strikes as a huge success. Around 650 republicans were in attendance. Speaking after the event, The Carrigart based republican said: "Active, confident, republicanism has never been stronger in Donegal than it is today".
