An Taisce's concerns on Moville Sewerage Scheme shines another embarrassing spotlight on the council's failure- Cllr Pádraig Mac Lochlainn

Inishowen Councillor, Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has described a letter from An Taisce, The National Trust for Ireland, sent to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), outlining their serious concerns on how Donegal County Council and their consultants have presented the critical tidal modelling system as part of the Environmental Impact Statement for the Moville/ Greencastle Sewerage Scheme as "shining yet another embarrassing spotlight on the council's failure in this regard".

Cllr Mac Lochlainn, once again called on Donegal County Council management to "do the right and fair thing" by dropping the "existing fundamentally flawed process" and commence a new process of identifying a location within the area for the long delayed sewerage scheme that will minimise the environmental impact and be "fair to all".

Cllr Mac Lochlainn said:

"The community in the three townlands between Moville and Greencastle, affected by this sewerage scheme have long shown how flawed and unfair the council's process of site selection and then environmental studies has been. Despite politically motivated attempts to label and dismiss them as NIMBYs (Not In My Backyards), they have repeatedly exposed the failure of senior council staff and some local politicians. They have long been vindicated in their opposition".

"This latest development demonstrates an abuse of process and financial resources by Donegal County Council. It is clear that An Taisce has serious concerns about how Donegal County Council and their expensive consultants have dealt with the key issue of tidal modelling. In other words, how Lough Foyle and the shore line and local beaches would be impacted by this scheme"

"It is clear that both Donegal County Council and their consultants model did not stand up to scrutiny and that they just arbitrarily changed the model to avoid being held accountable. They cannot be allowed to do this and this letter is yet another embarrassment in a long list of shame"

"I am now repeating my call for Donegal County Council to do the right and fair thing by all the people of Moville and Greencastle parish and start this process again. It's time to admit wrong doing and heal the wounds"
