Quinn to be co-opted onto Union National Executive

The Sinn Fein Councillor for the Letterkenny area,Mick Quinn is to be co-opted onto the National Executive of Impact the Public Service Trade Union.

Speaking after he had received confirmation of the move Quinn said:"I have been contacted by the Chairperson of the Divisional Executive of the Union and have been advised that my co-option onto the Executive will be formally adopted at it's next meeting."

Quinn continued :"I believe that whilst this will be a challenge it will also be an oportunity.I have been a trade union activist most of my working life and believe that the recent cuts in wages and the erosion of workers rights must be tackled. There is no doubt that trade unions in this country are at a crossroads and if we are to deliver for workers we must honestly review what has happened over recent years and learn from the mistakes of the past.

We have seen the country being brought to it's knees because of the greed of a small few but the workers and the un-employed are left to carry the can."

Quinn concluded :"I genuinely believe that if trade unions are to remain relevant in Irish Society we must ensure that it never again happens that the majority are damned by the sins of the few."
