Major changes to Council Planning Policies to be proposed at next meeting
Quinn says :"Time to tackle the misery of un-finished estates."
The Sinn Fein Councillor for the Letterkenny area, Mick Quinn is to table a motion at next week's County Council which aims to prevent problems with future estates. Quinn said:"Many people throughout Donegal are living in misery because of the scourge of un-finished estates and whilst it is important that the Council continues to pursue developers who are in breach of their planning conditions it must also ensure that all future homeowners are protected."
Quinn continued:"I will be proposing a motion which calls on the Council to review it's policies in relation to future Housing Developments as a matter of urgency and which also include specific proposals which will protect the council and homeowners. The motion will call for an end to the practise of roll-over bonds, will insist that a bond will be lodged by the developer for every house to be constructed and will also give the Council the Legal right to use the bonds at any stage following the erection of the first half of the houses."
Quinn concluded:"I believe that if airtight policies had been in place over recent years we would not now be dealing with the mess that has been created.Donegal County Council has a duty to protect people who buy houses for which it has granted Planning Permission and this motion should go a long way towards that goal."
