Bushes set on fire at Ballyboe Park Glencar

Published: 25 July, 2010

Letterkeny Sinn Fein Councillor Gerry Mc Monagle has condemned the young people responsible for setting fire to the bushes at the rear of the Glencar Shopping Center describing their behaviour as irresponsible.

Cllr Mc Monagle was speaking after being contacted by local people who were disgusted at this latest act of anti social behaviour in the area.

Cllr Mc Monagle said:

The emergency services were called out to deal with the fires as they posed a threat to local business at the shopping centre. The people responsible must understand that by setting these fires like this they are distracting the emergency services away from any real emergencies that may arise elsewhere in the town and involve saving peoples lives. Young people must learn to understand that their irresponsible actions can lead to tragedies elsewhere and i would appeal to them to think about the consequences of their actions.

Cllr Mc Monagle continued:

Letterkenny Town Council in partnership with Letterkenny CDP, Tidy Towns and local resident groups have invested an awful lot of money,Time and energy into making this area a place for the whole community to enjoy. At this time of the year its a pleasure to behold with its well manicured lawns and flower beds its a place that the whole community can anjoy. Unfortunately there are a few amongst us hell bent on making life a misery for the rest of us.

Cllr Mc Monagle appealed to those young people involved in this latest act of vandilism to think before they act. They must realise that these actions could lead to people being hurt and property destroyed. I would also ask parents to take a greater interest in what their children are doing especially now during these summer months when tey are off school.

In conclusion Cllr Mc Monagle prasied the prompt reaction from the emergency services in dealing with the fires.
