Lalor disappointed by Joe McHugh TD's attack on the North's Education Minister.
Buncrana Sinn Féin Councilor Daren Lalor said he's disappointed Joe McHugh TD feels the need to attack the six counties Minister of Education, Catríona Ruane over the difficulties the pupil's from Derry are finding in attending Gaelcholaiste Chineal Eoghan.
The Sinn Féin councilor said, As a founding member of Gaelcholaiste Chineal Eoghan I,like all members, parents and students are frustrated at the legal difficulties that prevent student's from Derry availing of a bus service to their nearest Irish medium secondary school here in Buncrana.
This issue highlights the need for all political parties to place re-unification at the top of their agenda. Unfortunately for too long now the main political parties in this state washed their hands of our community within the six counties.
The reality is, Joe McHugh TD while making cheap political points is fully aware that under the existing legal framework of the Education and Libraries board to provide any form of transport or transport assistance, in these circumstances either for the whole or part of the journey will require an amendment by primary legislation.
This requires cross party support and in itself throws up challenges, but I can assure all those involved in reviving the Irish language schools in the peninsular that Sinn Fein will continue to play our part in promoting our language and work on finding a resolution to this important issue.
