Cllr Marie Therese Gallagher has called on the allocation from the NRA to be spent on doing repairs works and restoration of our roads.

Following the publication of the NRA allocation to Donegal County Council this week, Cllr Gallagher said, "Sinn Féin welcomes the allocation of just over €12million euro to Donegal, however after this big announcement this week, we need our Fianna Fáil Oireachtas members to ensure us that this money will be spent fixing our roads and not on paper work and grand designs. I believe the people of Donegal would forego the idea of major design schemes for a year if the standard of the roads we have, can be taken to a standard that people can drive comfortably and safely. Not alone can this allocation help take our roads to a drivalbe standard but it can also provide much needed employment to the section in our society that has been hit the hardest, namely people who were employed in the construction industry. Sinn Féin has outlined time and time again that the way forward for local economies is to invest in essential infrastructure, which in turn puts people back to work. Fianna Fáil have continuously over the years have come out with grand announcements, the people of Donegal will welcome any investment in the county, but we need this Government to tell us how many jobs they plan to create, and show the people of Donegal that we are not an after-thought. However it has been shown by this Governments actions or lack of actions that they do not have a plan, they are not serious about creating employment in Donegal and we are unfortunately an after-thought at the end of a long list of priorities."

"I have continuously raised the need for major investment on the N56 Glenties to Dungloe road, which has been left over the years and has become nothing more than a back road, this years the NRA has allocated €950,000 to this stretch of road, the people of west Donegal need assurances that this money will be spent on this stretch of road and not on paper work. Also in the allocation is €40,000 for works at Greenes corner in Dungloe, I welcome this, but I regret that if local knowledge at this area was listened to in the first place that this money would not be necessary. I have voiced my frustrations with the NRA time and time again, and I again would appeal to them to listen to local knowledge in areas, it is nearly impossible for people sitting in an office in Dublin to understand the terrain in West-Donegal. This is also evident by the lack of action on the sanctions that have been placed on the N56 which prohibits people building houses along this route."
