Scoil Chonaill must receive approval for new building without delay - DohertyPublished: 21 January, 2010
Speaking in the Seanad today in conjunction with Senator Brian O'Domhnaill, Sinn Féin Senator Pearse Doherty has called on the Minister for Education and Science to allow Scoil Chonaill Naofa in Bunbeg approval to go to tender and construction and to treat this application with urgency. He said: "This school has been waiting for years for a new building. They were recently told by the Department that all of their application forms had been passed on the Department's technical team for assessment; they were told they would receive written notice within a week with a final decision one way or another. However it has now been almost a month since they submitted their forms and yet there has been no reply. "I have been dealing with this school for a number of years now and indeed I attended this school as a child. Very many serious problems including faulty and dangerous electrical works were involved and it is high time that this government started putting the safety of children first. "This school needs answers and needs them quickly. If they do not receive approval of their application within the next few days they were need to start the process all over again. It is not fair on the children or the teachers to delay it any longer."ENDS |
