The Sinn Fein Representative for the Milford Electoral Area Donal Cullen is asking people to be careful when ringing FONCLUB no. 57080 for a RING TONE as advertised in the papers.
The Milford Electoral Rep. Said;
"I have been contacted by a constituent who had subscribed to the no. 57080 for a ring tone and received message after message welcoming him to the Foneclub. Each message he received cost him €2.50 and he received a least 2-3 messages per. day using up his credit. When credit would run out the messages stopped and once he topped up again he would receive a series of messages which would eat away at his credit".
"On contacting Vodaphone he was told to text the 57080 no. and ask for the messages to be stopped at a cost of €6. Messages kept coming and he had to repeat this three times totalling €18 but the messages kept coming. This man is at a stage now where he has stopped putting credit on his phone. He has since spoken to others who have experienced the same problem and they said they had to change their number to stop it".
He continued:
"When I contacted Vodaphone they informed me this was not the first time they had received complaints in relation to this number. The service provider for this no.57080 is OPERA-TELECOM and unfortunately this provider does not come under the remit of Vodaphone. I was advised to contact REG-TEL who are a state regulated body for communications who oversee any complaints that consumers may have they informed me that they had a number of complaints and they had now removed the number 57080 from the service provider FONCLUB. I would recommend that people ring Reg-Tel:-1850-741-741 or myself Donal:-087-9798268 if they experience any problems with any service provider".
