Council should re-examine Westbrook bridge traffic calming measures

Published: 27 May, 2009

Sinn Féin Buncrana Town Council candidate Ciaran McGuinness asks Buncrana Town Council to re- examine the traffic calming measures currently in place at Westbrook bridge coming onto the Cockhill Road as a matter if urgency.

Ciaran McGuinness said:

"this is a major issue to the residents across the Westbrook bridge and has been highlighted to the Sinn Féin election canvass team over the last number of weeks. The fact is that the introduction of the left hand turning lane to alleviate traffic during busy periods has not worked, and has by the layout of the road created a hazard for drivers turning left as they are blinded by the car turning right.

It is now clear that the system in place has been unsuccessful and I would ask the council to re-examine the possibility of erecting traffic lights at this junction, which would both alleviate the waiting times that residents turning towards the town centre wait during busy times and also create a safer situation for drivers turning left towards the Cockhill area.
