Lalor calls for the community to attend Buncrana Town Council meetings

Buncrana Sinn Féin town councilor Daren Lalor is encouraging members of the public to start attending monthly Buncrana Town Council meetings.

Cllr Lalor said, while out canvassing for the up-coming local elections on 5th June it is clear from the feed back the Sinn Féin team are receiving, that many within our community have a strong interest and knowledge of local issues. So I'm again calling on the community to take ownership of their local council and attend monthly meetings.

At present individuals, community and voluntary groups may request a meeting with the town council at a statutory monthly meeting and the council have benefited by meeting a number of such groups over the last number of years. But, it is imperative that such individuals and groups not only continue to seek such meetings, but explore other avenues for community participation.

One example of community partnership in its infancy at present is community policing, which has the potential to deliver on the ground for all the people of Buncrana.

Cllr Lalor concluded the new town council irrespective of its political make up, will due to Government cut backs face huge challenges in the time a head, so community participation is vital. So, while I acknowledge there is limited space in the chamber I still would call on members of the public to come along and attend the Buncrana Town Council meetings at 7.30pm on the second Wednesday of ever month.
