Buncrana Youth Council should be establishedPublished: 27 April, 2009
Ciaran McGuinness, Sinn Féin candidate for Buncrana Town Council has called for the establishment of a Youth Council in the town during the next council term
Ciaran said:
"young people are the backbone of our communities future, yet so many of the decisions made at local level seem to bypass their interests. In order to address this I believe that the new Buncrana Town Council should explore and facilitate the setting of a Buncrana Youth Council, similar in format to the Donegal Youth Council"
Ciaran continued:
"In 2006 my party colleague Cllr Daren Lalor succeeded in inviting the Donegal Youth Council to address Buncrana Town Council for the first time, with cross party support, if elected to Buncrana Town council, I along with my party colleagues will continue to support emerging leadership among the youth of Buncrana, through the establishment of a youth council which will provide a forum for structured consultation and advice to the Town Council.
Buncrana Town Council must bring the needs and best interests of the towns young people - an investment in the future of Buncrana - to the centre of all decisions and plans. I believe that the setting up of a youth forum based on the Donegal Youth Council model is the best way of achieving this."
