Sinn Féin back McNeely Villas residentsPublished: 27 June, 2006
Sinn Féin Letterkenny Town Councillor, Gerry McMonagle is backing the residents of McNeely Villas in the Oldtown area of Letterkenny in their objections to the construction of Four Town houses at 217 Ros Suighle facing onto the only entrance in to McNeely Villas.
In particular, the residents are objecting to the suggestion in the application that the applicant is in ownership of a green area with a small stonewall and name plaque of the estate.
Cllr McMonagle said:
"My colleague, Cllr Pádraig Mac Lochlainn and I recently met with members of the McNeely Villas Residents Committee to listen to their concerns. They are absolutely outraged at this application and its suggestion that the applicant is in ownership of the green area at the only vehicular access to their estate. This green area has a small stonewall with the name plaque of the estate on it. At a time, a telephone box for the local community was situated there.
"It is incredible that the planning applicant could have believed that he was in ownership of this green area. I have confirmed with the County Council that the land belongs to them and I fully expect the applicant to now do the right thing and immediately withdraw this application.
"If he insists on pursuing this application, then I am stating clearly that my Sinn Féin colleagues, Donegal County Councillors, Tony McDaid and Pádraig Mac Lochlainn and myself will be fully supporting the residents objections and vigorously opposing this planning application". |
