Doherty calls for support for VRT Protest on Tuesday in Lifford

Sinn Féin Cllr Pearse Doherty has called on the public to support the planned VRT (Vehicle Registration Tax) protest in Lifford Today.

The protest, which has been organised by the Irish Driver's Association, is calling for the abolition of VRT on new and second hand vehicles and the excessive levels of taxation on motorists in Ireland.

Cllr Doherty said:

"I would urge people to support this protest on Tuesday. This government has now imposed two taxes on new vehicles, VRT and VAT. All new motor vehicles and vehicles brought into Ireland are subject to Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) and must be registered with the Revenue Commissioners. If you are moving to Ireland or are already living here and you are importing a car or other vehicle, you will need to pay VRT.

"This government need to listen to the people and realise that exorbitant super rates are no longer going to be tolerated so I call on people to make their voices heard and join the protestors in Lifford and Bridgend on Tuesday."
