Roads and Water depts should work together to save tax-payers money- Gallagher
Published: 24 March, 2009
Sinn Féin Cllr Marie Therese Gallagher has called on the County Council to include pipe replacement on the Caravan Road in Dungloe, when the immanent road works are carried out on this Road.
Cllr Gallagher said "I am calling on the County Council to do pipe replacement works on the caravan road in conjunction with upcoming resurfacing work. There will be €70,000 euro spent on road works on the Caravan road this year, this is very welcome to the people who have not had restructuring works for nearly 40 years. To run aside this the County Council should replace water lines on this road, last year I highlighted the need for this work to be done, residents on the road cannot drink the water or wash clothes because of the discolouration of the water. This is totally unacceptable for a community to be forking out on a daily basis for drinking water. The roads department and water department should work together to ensure these works are done simultaneously, so that money is not spent digging up the road next year to replace the water pipes. If these works are done together much needed money will be saved."CRÍOCH
