onegal Sinn Féin to hold convention for the Glenties Electoral area this Sunday. -Two candidates to be selected
Donegal Sinn Féin have confirmed that the convention to select their candidates for the Glenties Electoral Area of Donegal County Council will take place next Sunday 18th of January at 3pm in Ionad Naomh Padraig, Dore, in Gweedore.
The Party intends to select two candidates to contest the upcoming elections and add to their sitting councillor, Marie Therese Gallagher, who was co-opted on to the council following the election of Pearse Doherty to the Seanad.
Speaking ahead of the event, Sinn Féin Senator, Pearse Doherty said:
"Our party look forward to the convention with a sense of determination. While this ward reduces in size from a six seater to a five seater Sinn Féin is ambitious of the gains we can achieve. We intend to select two candidates to contest the next council election. It is expected that sitting Rosses based councillor, Marie Therese Gallagher, who has made a real impact since her co-option, will be joined by John Sheamais Ó Féarraigh from Gweedore.
"This is a very strong team and we are determined that it will be a successful one. Each time we have contested an election in recent times more and more people have endorsed our vision and our vote has increased. I hope that this time it will be no different. These two candidates offer the type of Fresh Leadership that is missing from much of Irish Politics and are an asset to any community.
"Once our candidates are formally selected next Sunday, our campaign commences. We will be taking that campaign to every street and townland in the area. We will present an alternative vision for our county, to the economic mismanagement and the neglect that the people here have experienced, particularly in recent times and we will offer them the solutions."
